DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY

(Marginal European Offshore Field)

This involved a Marginal Field Development Study commissioned by the Department of Energy (Offshore Supplies Office) in order to examine the potential developments which might maximise the cost effectiveness of extracting hydrocarbons from marginal subsea reservoirs and provide British Industry with an increased participation in the offshore market. A final study report was published for the Department of Energy.

BRITOIL PLC

(Marginal UK Offshore Field)

This work entailed a subsea design and development study for marginal UK Continental Shelf Fields, utilising a floating production system, which was split into three phases. First was a State of the Art review; followed by a detailed investigation of a 'production only' floating system. The third phase involved the analysis of a suitable, complete 'drilling and production' facility. Study reports were compiled and published for each phase of the work.

HAMILTON BROTHERS OIL & GAS LTD / R.J. BROWN & ASSOCIATES

(Duncan/Argyll Field)

MARIS were responsible, as sub-contractors to RJBA, for the design of all the subsea systems on the Duncan/Argyll Phase 2 development. The work included additions to the Duncan Manifold, design of a new manifold and design of a new riser tensioning and handling system. The MARIS team carried their part of the project through detailed design and equipment specification, to procurement and supervision of fabrication, assembly, acceptance testing and field installation.

NORSK HYDRO A/S

(Oseberg Field)

This comprised a feasibility study of flowline bundles for the Oseberg Field Development project. The study covered all characteristics likely to impact on the field layout during the life of the field including interference with the structures, risers, other lines, anchors, and other hazards.

SUN OIL LTD. / KD MARINE

This work involved design, procurement, installation, tie-in and hydrotesting of 30 flexible spoolpieces around the Balmoral subsea manifold and riser bases.

SHELL UK EXPLORATION & PRODUCTION LTD.

(Central Cormorant UMC)

MARIS's involvement in this project was extensive. Personnel were provided for the project planning, co-ordination and execution and extensive onshore testing. This included control systems, manifold systems, template trees, running tools, TFL equipment, and remote connection systems and totalled 16 man years of MARIS effort.

SHELL UK EXPLORATION & PRODUCTION LTD.

(Central Cormorant P1 Satellite)

Involving tree testing and installation procedures and logistics programmes for the P1 well. MARIS also provided consultancy services for the modification of the installation of the tubing hanger, the BOP stack orientation system, the completion riser safety aspects for the P1 well, the development of flowline and control line pull-in procedures, and the design of the land test set-up for UMC satellite well equipment.

BP PETROLEUM DEVELOPMENT LTD.

(Buchan Field)

Rationalising the riser system in order to simplify handling on the floating production platform so that tripping times could be greatly reduced. The recommended changes would significently improve production and safety. The main innovation being a 'riser tensioning table' designed by Harry Weston.

HYDRIL LTD.

(Safety Development)

This project involved the commercial development of another invention by Harry Weston. The invention being a wellhead diverter which protects the well continuously from before the running of the tubing and throughout the well's life and can form the heart of a low profile or horizontal subsea completion itself.

VICKERS P&D
